Bridges help maintain the natural shape of your face and preserve correct alignment in the mouth
Dental bridges in Edmonton to restore your smile
Dental bridges offer an effective, affordable solution for patients who need to replace missing teeth, when an implant isn’t an option. Bridges help to maintain the natural shape of your face and preserve correct alignment in the mouth.
There are three types of dental bridges:
- Traditional bridges – can be fabricated from gold, porcelain or other alloys. A traditional bridge consists of a false tooth, or pontic, fused between two crowns. These crowns are placed on healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth and it is cemented in place.
- A Cantilever bridge is similar to a traditional bridge but uses one crown instead of two. This type of bridge is used when there is only one healthy tooth next to the missing tooth.
- A Maryland bridge does not use crowns to anchor the false tooth. Instead, the false tooth is fused to sturdy metal clasps that are bonded to the back of the existing teeth. This option is commonly used as a temporary tooth replacement.
The effectiveness and longevity of any dental bridge depends upon its foundation – the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached, so it is very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
