Bridges Replace Missing Teeth and Restore Your Smile and Bite
Dental bridges in Edmonton to restore your smile
Dental bridges offer an effective, affordable solution for patients who need to replace missing teeth, especially when an implant isn’t an option. Bridges help maintain the natural shape of your face and preserve correct alignment in your mouth.
There are three types of dental bridges:
- Traditional bridges – can be fabricated from gold, porcelain or other alloys. A traditional bridge consists of a false tooth, or pontic, fused between two crowns. These crowns are placed on healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth and it is cemented in place.
- A Cantilever bridge is similar to a traditional bridge but uses one crown instead of two. This type of bridge is used when the dentist feels only one tooth is required to support the missing tooth.
- A Maryland bridge does not use crowns to anchor the false tooth. Instead, the false tooth is fused to sturdy metal clasps or white zirconia that are bonded to the back of the existing teeth. This option is commonly used as a temporary tooth replacement.
The effectiveness and longevity of any dental bridge depends on its foundation. The foundation includes the attached teeth, gingiva (gums), and bone to which the bridge is supported by. It is very important to keep all of them healthy and strong. For more information or to discuss whether a dental bridge is the right solution for you, please contact our office to schedule an appointment.
